Our simple syrup ratio is 50/50 sugar and water. Heat the mixture on the stove until the sugar dissolves and store in the fridge until you need it. Use it to sweeten your tea, coffee, limeades and lemonades, and your cocktails. I need to remember to keep simple syrup in the fridge all summer long so we are always one step closer to the limeades and lemonades we love. I hate it when I have to wait for the simple syrup to heat on the stove before I can make the limeades.
Here’s our limeade/lemonade recipe:
- Fill shaker with ice.
- Add 1/4 cup simple syrup.
- Add 1/2 lime or lemon.
- Add 8 oz. club soda.
- Shake, and if your club soda is nice and fresh, expect your shaker to let you know it.
- Pour into your favorite glass strained or not (we prefer not) and be grateful for citrus trees.
Serve this in a funky glass to your kids and they’ll prefer it over soft drinks. Actually I could serve this to the kids in their hands and they’d still love it. Yeah, I know it’s got a smackload of sugar, so we’re not accomplishing much here.
